The Four Components of a Memorable Travel Experience
"Where have you been lately?" This is likely the most frequent question our TenDot team gets as individuals in conversations. We thoroughly enjoy sharing our global travels and getting people excited about new places. While the destination is an important aspect to the overall travel experience, we have learned it's not the most important factor.
The four components of a memorable travel experience include:
- Destination
- Resort/Hotel
- Food & Beverage
- Activities
Each of these can make or break your travel experience.
Telling people you went to an exotic locale is great, but you can truly have a unique experience anywhere. For example, telling someone you visited southern Utah may not create a high level of allure. But, say you stayed at Amangiri in southern Utah and you will have amazing thoughts to share about this spectacular resort that's literally in the middle of nowhere. The resort itself here plays a huge factor in creating a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Food and beverage are another major component. If you don't like Chinese food, you probably won't love your experience in China. If you want over-the-top dining, believe it or not, you'll find it in Tennessee! While you may not immediately think of eastern Tennessee as a culinary destination, the Blackberry Farm food and wine program is an unbelievable experience.
How do activities make an impact? It's vital. So, what are you going to do? From our experiences, most of our client partners have the best memories when doing something together. For example, try flying a fighter jet in southern California. While telling folks you are going to southern California in and of itself may not impress, surely sitting in the cockpit with a fighter jet pilot to do an aerial dogfight while you actually fly the plane changes your travel story.
The most important thing to know is that memories and stories are not always about the destination. The other components have just as much to do with the memories you will take home and have for the rest of your life.
